The flow of vaccines, which has taken enormous speed in the last eight days, promises to keep pace in the coming days and weeks to come. In Mexico, four batches of doses whose active ingredient was manufactured in Argentina are ready: of these four batches, two items – 800,000 doses and 400,000 doses – will come to the country as soon as the Anmat approves them, possibly this week. But, in addition, also with the active substance produced in Argentina, from Albuquerque, in the United States, another 900,000 vaccines will come by the end of the week. Added to this is a flight to Russia from where about 500,000 doses always arrive. If added, lArgentina could be close to 20 million received vaccines in the next seven days. The forecast is even better for the second week of June.
The government of Alberto Fernández, at the time with Ginés González García as Minister of Health and Carla Vizzotti as Deputy Minister, strongly opted for an agreement with Oxford / AtraZeneca, producing the active principle in Argentina – in the mAbxience laboratory, owned by Hugo Sigman – and completing the process in Mexico. That strategic project suffered delays, especially due to problems in the Aztec laboratory, but now it is paying off. The sequence is as follows:
* Given the difficulties that appeared in Mexico – in part due to obstacles set by Donald Trump, who blocked the shipment of supplies and filters – production was diverted to an AstraZeneca plant in Albuquerque, New Mexico, United States. From there came the first 843,000 doses that arrived on Monday, May 24.
* This Monday the Air Canada plane that brought the largest shipment landed: 2,148,600 vaccines, which also came from Albuquerque, United States, with active ingredient produced in Argentina.
* In Mexico, four shipments are ready and approved by the regulatory entity, the Federal Commission for Prevention against Sanitary Risks (Cofepris), always with the active substance produced in Argentina. Three batches are around 800,000 doses and one is 400,000. Of the first three, the destinations were two for Mexico and one for the rest of Latin America. The fourth, the 400,000 dose, is destined for Argentina. But Mexico, through the management of Ambassador Carlos Tomada, gave one of those items to Argentina, so that 800,000 will come to the country ceded by Mexico and the 400,000 that originally correspond to Argentina. In total, 1,200,000 vaccines. These doses await an authorization from the Anmat, a procedure that should not take too long. This Monday, the Mexican government will carry out an act of liberation of the vaccines presided over by the Aztec Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard.
* In Albuquerque another batch is ready, of 900,000 doses, which will also come in the last days of the week.
Thus, in total, from the Oxford / AstraZeneca-Argentina-Mexico project, around 2,100,000 vaccines can be expected in the coming days.
* To this is added a plane that should leave for Russia at the beginning of the current week. As always, the number of vaccines will be close to 500,000, although it is never clear how many are loaded or the ratio between dose 1 and dose 2.
Taking into account that Argentina exceeded 17 million doses received this Monday, by the end of the week it could be close to 20 million.
The outlook for the second week of June anticipates that the flow will continue.
* From Albuquerque 1,500,000 more doses would come.
* It will be necessary to see if a new game arrives from Mexico.
* It should be seen if the flow of a plane continues every ten days from Moscow, as promised by President Vladimir Putin.
* There is an agreement for the arrival in Argentina of two million doses of the Chinese Sinopharm vaccine. At some point it was said that the plane with that departure could come in the middle of the month.
* By June 7 there is the commitment of the Gamaleya Institute and the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) to send the active substance of one million doses of Sputnik V to be finished at the Richmond Laboratory, owned by Marcelo Figueiras. The vaccines, half dose 1 and half dose 2, would be available before the end of the month.
Finally, all these vaccine arrivals could have a huge addition if the president of the United States, Joe Biden, announces the release of some 80 million doses that are stored in the northern country. PageI12 He announced that the Secretary of State, the US Foreign Ministry, informed the Argentine ambassador in Washington that part of the vaccines would come to Argentina.
With or without Biden’s gesture, the country should be in a position to have 40 percent of citizens vaccinated near the end of the month or early July, including, of course, all Argentines at risk. This means all those over 60 and all those who have previous illnesses, but the safe flow of vaccines will allow advanced vaccination of people between 50 and 59 years old and possibly also 40 to 49 years old, without previous illnesses.
