In May 1965, the black and yellow were allowed to lift the DFB Cup for the first time. In front of 48,000 spectators, it was Alfred “Aki” Schmidt who gave BVB an early lead against Alemannia Aachen (10′). Eight minutes later, Lothar Emmerich scored to make it 2-0.

BVB fans had to wait 34 years for their second triumph in the DFB Cup. Dortmund initially fell behind against SV Werder Bremen. Karl-Heinz Riedle scored the 0:1 after a quarter of an hour.
However, the lead of the green-whites did not last long. Six minutes later, Norbert Dickel made it 1-1. After just under an hour, Dortmund turned the game around thanks to Frank Mill’s goal (58′). Dickel (73′) and Michael Lusch (74′) made everything clear with a double strike within two minutes.

Borussia Dortmund won the double for the first time in the 2011/12 season. The black and yellow not only relegated FC Bayern Munich to second place in the Bundesliga, but also prevailed in a thrilling DFB Cup final.
After goals from Shinji Kagawa (3rd), Mats Hummels (41st) and Robert Lewandowski (45th), Jürgen Klopp’s team led 3-1 at the break. Arjen Robben scored the 1-1 equalizer after 25 minutes.
After almost an hour, Lewandowski was there again and increased to 4:1 (58th). After Franck Ribery was able to shorten the lead for Bayern (75′), Lewandowski scored in the closing stages to make it 5-2 (81′).

After BVB lost three finals in a row, they managed to win the fourth cup in May 2017. The black and yellow got off to a better start against Eintracht Frankfurt and took the lead after eight minutes through Ousmane Dembelé.
It was up to Ante Rebic to equalize for SBU after almost half an hour (29′). In the second half, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang put Dortmund back on track with a converted penalty (67′).

Due to the corona pandemic, no spectators were allowed in the Olympic Stadium when Dortmund last won the cup. In a duel with RB Leipzig, Jadon Sancho tied a brace in the first half (5th & 45th). Erling Haaland scored the interim 0: 2 (28th).
In the 71st minute, Dani Olmo scored the first goal. Haaland finally destroyed Leipzig’s hopes of catching up with his second goal (87th).
