How many people are currently in intensive care due to Covid?

The coronavirus pandemic is not over yet. Even though we’re pretty much back to normal before 2020, the truth is contagions continue to register every day, as well as hospitalizations and deaths.

The data on the evolution of the pandemic indicate that in Spain it is easing but, as the director of the Carlos III Health Institute (ISCIII), Cristóbal Belda Iniesta, pointed out, the cumulative incidence at 14 days “never reached zero”.

Belda explained that the main threat at the moment is the appearance of viral sublines and “any other circumstances” that change the evolution of the pandemic. Other experts, such as the CSIC virologist Margherita della Valleagree on this and call for caution before the arrival of winter and the coincidence with the flu season.

Vaccines are stopped the most effective tool to fight the virussince, although they do not prevent contagion, they prevent the disease from progressing seriously, greatly reducing the number of deaths and hospitalizations.

Also, the vaccines have adapted to the Omicron variant, that is they start managing from today, will extend the protection of the population against the virus, in particular of the most vulnerable people.
