In the past three years in particular, the number of overnight stays in Dresden has risen steadily. In 2017 there were around 4.4 million guests, Dresden welcomed 4.7 million guests in 2019.
The increasing number of visitors prompted many investors and hotel chains to get involved in Dresden in order to cut a piece of the cake. Five new openings with a total of 1,000 beds are planned for 2021 alone.
Dresden currently has around 24,500 guest beds on offer. Further hotel developments are still in the pipeline. In addition to the Prizeotel, Hampton by Hilton and Premier Inn are planning further openings with around 780 beds.
The fact that the competition was already great before Corona was evident from the falling room prices. But how many hotels will survive the Corona crisis is unclear. Bankruptcies are also to be expected in Dresden.
Whether corona-related closings and falling income: One can only hope that, like last summer, visitors will return as quickly as possible and boost business. Regardless of this, the question arises whether further new locations are really still needed.
