How Long Will Wave 3 of COVID-19 Be? The Indonesian Ministry of Health Reveals its Predictions

Jakarta

The Indonesian Ministry of Health believes that Indonesia will face third wave of COVID-19. Many factors have triggered a new wave, such as increased mobility and neglect of health protocols in the midst of easing restrictions.

According to the spokesperson for the COVID-19 vaccination of the Indonesian Ministry of Health, Dr. Siti Nadia Tarmizi, it is possible that the third wave of COVID-19 cases was reported to be higher than the previous wave. However, because the Corona vaccination coverage continues to increase, many cases of hospitalization and death can be prevented.

“If we compare it with the first period, it will definitely be higher, because we know the type of virus is different, we even know that we experienced a much higher case in July, even up to 54,000 confirmed cases of COVID-19,” said Dr Nadia in a statement. VivaTalk webinar, Thursday (21/10/2021).

“Well, it’s just that our vaccination coverage is quite good, it means that for 50 percent of our vaccination target, currently 110 million people have received the first dose of vaccination. This means that they have around 40 percent protection, the risk of getting sick or contracting COVID-19 is only 60 percent. .”

Although a number of people who have been vaccinated have protection from COVID-19, there is still a possibility of an increase in the rate of cases because protection from vaccination does not reach 100 percent. Dr. Nadia appealed to the public not to be euphoric in order to contain the rate of transmission in the third wave of COVID-19.

He said the government would continue to strive for acceleration of Corona vaccination and rapid testing to then detect Corona cases as early as possible. This is important because the source of COVID-19 transmission can be suppressed more quickly.

Finally, Dr. Nadia reminded people to continue to travel only for essential activities, Indonesia is not yet completely free from pandemic COVID-19 although cases continue to decline.
