According to the Serbian Ebb Software, we treat the surreal horror game as an AA game, not AAA (this was also the case with Ninja Theory’s Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice).
Scorn appeared on Steam Greenlight, which no longer exists, in July 2016, but a little more than a year later, Ebb Software launched a Kickstarter campaign for the game, which received nearly 200,000 euros in support. At that time, the studio withdrew, but in 2020, during an Inside Xbox broadcast, the game received a new trailer, plus it was confirmed that an exclusive agreement was reached with Microsoft on the console.
Ljubomir Peklar, CEO and creative director of Ebb Software a Steamen talked about the state of Scorn. Currently, the developers are in the final phase, so they also send Scorn to their platform partners (Microsoft, Valve) to make sure everything goes smoothly before the release. The team is also paying attention to the finer details (they are working on several scenes and scripted events). With the completion of these, they will share more exciting content with us after Gamescom, leading up to the release of the game.
How long will the game be? According to Peklar, the world consists of several segments with different environments and multiple trajectories. The playing time also depends on how long it takes someone to solve the puzzles, but the Serbian team estimates that a playthrough will take 6-8 hours. He emphasized that we should not treat Scorn as a AAA game (far from it), because it is an independent product that was put together as a passion project. At first it was just four people working on it with a small budget, but since then they have grown and are already treating their upcoming game as an AA game.
Although Scorn is a horror game, it will not have a photo mode, but let’s not forget Ebb Software’s explanation: the design of the user interface will be minimalistic, so image theft will work without it. The game will launch on October 21st on Xbox Series X and PC, but it will also be available on (Xbox) Game Pass from its release.
