(openPR) How long should young people spend a year abroad? Does a school year abroad always have to last a whole year? Are shorter periods possible and sensible? Many young people and their parents ask themselves this and other questions.
“It doesn’t always have to be a whole year; shorter periods at a high school abroad are usually possible and definitely sensible,” says Thomas Eickel, high school counselor and founder of the MyStudyChoice portal in Bonn. “Sometimes a shorter exchange abroad is easier to integrate into your school career, or there are other personal reasons for it. Even in a shorter time, young people abroad experience a lot of new things, improve their English skills, and get to know the country and its people. Young people also often use the option of extending their stay. A year-long stay undoubtedly has many advantages for broadening your horizons and developing your personality. However, many young people who have only spent a term or semester at a school abroad regret afterwards that after weeks of settling in and strengthening friendships, they already have to think about leaving.
