No one would have believed that the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) was going to be so massive in today’s cinematic landscape. The connected universe is entering its fourth phase with Black Widow and Shang-Chi At the movie theater. Without forgetting the Disney + series: WandaVision, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier and Loki. Others arrive between Ms. Marvel and She-Hulk. On the big screen, fans are waiting Spider-Man 3, Doctor Strange 2, The Eternals… But today, looking back with Captain America : First Avenger. In this feature film, we discover the origins of Steve Rogers whose supposed virginity was discussed by the writers. A plot set in the 40s during the Second World War ended with the cryonics of Captain America. But how long was the superhero in the ice?
The MCU is tracing its timeline on ours
And Captain America : First Avenger takes place during World War II, the feature film ends with a special post-credits scene. The cryogenized superhero wakes up in amazement. Steve Rogers then flees and is found in the middle of Times Square these days. Nick Fury then approaches him: it’s time to form a team of vigilantes. And if the man finds his great love at the end ofAvengers : Endgame, which was entitled to its retrogaming version, a question remains. How long has Captain America been under the ice?
According to the comic book from which is taken First Avenger, Steve Rogers sinks into the ice aboard a Hydra spacecraft on February 5, 1945. Avengers #4 arrives in 1964, which puts him under ice for 19 years. The MCU had to add 40 to 50 years to bring it into our time. If the MCU timeline doesn’t give an exact date, the official timeline developed gradually.
During phases 1 to 3, the films take place the year of their release. Iron Man is held in 2008, Avengers in 2012. The logic changed with the Snap in Avengers : Infinity War, adding 5 years before Endgame (whereas a year really separates the films).
Taking this logic, Steve Rogers came out of the ice after 66 years imprisoned at the end of First Avenger.
How can Captain America survive for so long?
The answer is simple: the Super Soldier serum in his veins, healing it quickly and providing resistance against freezing temperatures. An ability confirmed when Steve Rogers confides that he cannot be drunk after Bucky’s (apparent) death.
