KOMPAS.com – When eyelashes fall out, we may not pay much attention to it. With 90 to 160 lashes on the upper eyelid and 75 to 80 lashes on the lower eyelid, losing a strand or two is certainly nothing to worry about.
However, if you start to notice a lot of eyelashes falling out, it may indicate a certain health problem.
How long do eyelashes grow?
The lifespan of eyelashes can vary from 4 months to 11 months. There are three phases in the life span of eyelashes, namely the growth phase, degradation phase and telogen phase.
Growth phase: Also known as the anagen phase, this phase can last between 4 and 10 weeks. Eyelashes generally grow between 0.12 and 0.14 millimeters per day.

Degradation phase: Also known as the catagen phase, this phase occurs when eyelashes stop growing. In this phase, hair follicles begin to shrink. Resting phase: Also known as the telogen phase, this is the final phase, when the eyelashes fall off.
In general, this cycle is much shorter than the life cycle of hair on the head. Experts think this may happen because the anagen phase is longer for hair that grows on the scalp. The anagen phase of scalp hair tends to last between 2 and 4 years.
How long do it take for eyelashes to grow after they are removed?
Typically, it takes about 6 weeks for eyelashes to grow back if they are cut or burned, but there is no damage to the follicles or eyelids.

However, if they are removed, eyelashes take longer to grow back. This is because removing eyelashes from the eyelids can slow down the replacement process.
