Researchers in the United Kingdom have studied the functioning of so-called T-lymphocytes (a type of white blood cell that is the essence of cellular immunity). “Cell immunity against SARS-CoV-2 is present in most adults six months after infection,” studies.
The researchers conducted the study on hundreds of volunteers in whom tests showed the presence of covid-19. All patients had only a mild course of the disease, some did not even have any symptoms and none of them ended up in the hospital.
According to experts, the great news is that all volunteers developed specific cellular immunity against coronavirus. The researchers found that in a more detailed analysis of the blood, T-lymphocytes were still present after six months.
Because the human immune system is very complex, it is difficult to determine exactly how long immunity to covid-19 will last. Experts also argue about how long immunity to antibodies will last. Some works state that it weakens after only three months, others speak of up to five.
However, it is likely that longer and stronger immunity occurs in people who have had a more difficult course of the disease.
