How long can the Russians continue to fight in Ukraine? In Moscow, Putin is sitting on a trump card.

Putin has recruited new forces and mercenaries. Still, it can go from bad to worse when several of the soldiers return home.

A Ukrainian soldier is standing next to what is said to be a Russian soldier who has surrendered in the city of Irpin outside Kyiv. In recent days, Russian soldiers have withdrawn from the area around Kyiv. This photo was taken on March 30.

The war in Ukraine is consuming the Russian military. Putin’s soldiers have suffered heavy losses. Ukrainian ambushes, killed generals, broken equipment and frostbite are just some of the things that have plagued the Russian army.

Despite the fact that conscripts, Syrians and other mercenaries have been brought in, the war has not been a dance of praise for Putin’s men.

Russian authorities have so far called the war a “military operation” and not a war. If Putin is to strengthen his troops, he may have to bite the bullet.
