How Liverpool Help Muslim Players During Ramadan

KOMPAS.com – Striker Liverpool, Sadio Manepraised how communication with captain Jordan Henderson and Liverpool coach, Juergen Klopp, helped Muslim players in the Reds camp help them navigate the holy month Ramadhan.

Sadio Mane is one of Liverpool’s Muslim players who undergo fasting in addition to Mohamaed Salah, Naby Keita, and Ibrahim Konate.

Of course, it is very difficult for a professional athlete to maintain peak performance if he is not allowed to eat and drink until the sun has not set, especially on match day.

As reported by the BBC, fasting times vary from 3:52-4:59 am UK time to 19:38-20:27 pm at sunset.

Meanwhile, domestic match times vary widely from 12.30, 15.30, or 20.00 depending on the schedule.

However, Salah and Mane remain the mainstay of Liverpool who are chasing four titles this season. Both Keita and Konate also have a crucial role every time they are taken down.

Mane also said that Liverpool’s Muslim players remained in optimal condition thanks to good communication and the flexibility of coach Juergen Klopp and his staff in arranging the schedule.

“It’s not easy because playing and training during Ramadan is not easy at all,” Mane said in an interview with Bein Sports.

“However, before Ramadan we are trying to talk to the captain (Jordan Henderson) and tell the boss if it is possible to change the schedule by training in the morning.”

“That makes it easier for us. When you train in the morning, you have time to rest at home.”
