The sympathy for the people in the earthquake area in Turkey and Syria is great in Krefeld. Hundreds of people showed their solidarity with the victims and their families and gathered on Von der Leyen Square on Wednesday evening. Mayor Frank Meyer, together with the Union of Turkish and Islamic Associations in Krefeld, had invited to a commemoration event for the earthquake victims in order to send a signal of solidarity and compassion to the people in the affected areas. Meyer had also invited the Christian churches, the Jewish community and the Alevis. Together they all said an interreligious prayer for the affected people in south-eastern Turkey and northern Syria.
