How Kate Winslet landed a role in Titanic

The director did not even want to look at the actress for a long time.

From the very beginning, the search for a performer for the main role in the movie “Titanic” did not work out. When James Cameron wrote the screenplay, he envisioned a heroine with a thin, fragile, delicate waist, like Audrey Hepburn. He was even ready to compromise with himself and looked into Madonna, but it didn’t work out.

Suddenly, the British actress Kate Winslet burst into the busy life of the maestro, who, after reading the script, was so inspired by it that she began to bombard the director with letters asking for an audition. Over time, calls were added to the letters. Subsequently, Cameron was forced to surrender and arranged a viewing anyway, he writes “NZ TV”.

The creator of “Titanic” was not impressed with meeting the star, he even called her “Heavyweight Kate” because of her build and 43rd leg size. But in the process, the actress won the director’s heart, and her perseverance was not in vain.
