“This is a therapy that uses an equipment that revascularises the part of the body to be treated”, explains Dr. Cristiano Fusi
It is one of the most used therapies for sports rehabilitation worldwide, but what exactly are we talking about when we talk about tecar terapia? “This is a therapy that uses equipment that revascularises the part of the body to be treated”, explains Dr. Cristiano Fusi, sports physician and rehabilitation head physician at the Zucchi Clinical Institutes in Monza, as well as a physician. of the youth sector of Milan.
“The term was coined by whoever built the car and stands for capacitive-resistive energy transfer. Tecar therapy is able with its mechanism to reach deep with the heat of diathermy: precisely because of its resistive capacity, tecar therapy is able to open the intracellular channels of a joint or a muscle. This energy is brought inside the cells through electromagnetic waves with a particular frequency which is used as a therapy ”.
Are there any possible contraindications, or cases in which it is not recommended?
“In the case of cancer or pregnancy, since you have a magnetic field”.
In which cases is it particularly suitable?
“For treatments on the entire muscle and to treat arthrosis, which loves the heat”.

Are there any cases where, on the contrary, it is useless?
“The real secret of tecar therapy, but not only, is that there is no better instrumental therapy than that made on a correct diagnosis. Often the tecar is prescribed in situations for which it was not indicated. Then the patient finds no benefit and thinks that the problem is the tecar. But the problem is downstream: first a correct diagnosis is necessary, made by a doctor (sports doctor, orthopedist or physiatrist). Furthermore, the tecar is a dependent operator: it is important that the operator knows how to perform the tecar therapy correctly “.
