Ukrainian Minister of Culture and Information Policy Oleksandr Tkachenko has stated that Ukraine is put “in front of the fact”, not giving the opportunity to discuss other options for organizing the competition, writes “Focus”.
Ukraine’s Ministry of Culture and Information Policy has responded to a statement that Ukraine will not be able to host Eurovision next year.
“Ukraine does not agree with the essence of such a decision – when we are put in front of the fact without discussing other options,” Minister Tkachenko told his Telegram channel. The Ministry believes that there are grounds for further negotiations to find a common solution that satisfies all parties.
He notes that the Ukrainians won the Eurovision Song Contest in good faith in 2022 and fulfilled the necessary conditions within the deadline set for the coordination process of the competition in Ukraine, namely, “provided answers and guarantees regarding security standards and possible venues”.
Tkachenko also points out that the holding of Eurovision 2023 in Ukraine is a strong signal to the whole world that it is currently supporting Ukraine and the ministry will demand a change in this decision.
It has already been reported that the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) announced on Friday that the winner of this year’s Eurovision Song Contest, war-torn Ukraine, will not be able to hold the competition next year. He added that the question of whether the second place winner would be held in the UK was being considered.
“In the current circumstances, [Ukrainas raidsabiedrība UA] “The EBU ‘s safety and performance guarantees cannot be met by the broadcaster in order to host, organize and produce the Eurovision Song Contest,” the EBU explained in a statement.
