How is the “express bus” project going in Bordeaux?

Good news for your daily commute Bordeaux ! From 2025, a new express bus line will make life easier for Bordeaux residents. The “circular boulevards” project, named by The city of Bordeauxambitious and will be used in two stages. This project is part of a more comprehensive plan for Bordeaux Métropole which provides for the creation of seven express bus lines. If the Bordeaux Saint-Jean – Saint-Aubin-de-Médoc line has already been in service since June 2024, the other lines will be implemented gradually from 2027.

These express buses, or High Level Service Buses (BHNS), are designed to provide maximum comfort to users. They travel on reserved lanes (or “own lines”) when traffic congestion is necessary, and benefit from priority at intersections. The stops, which are approximately 500 meters apart, are modern and suitable for people with reduced mobility.

Even if the implementation of the line of boulevards is facilitated by the lack of major works on the boulevards themselves, some specific improvements will be required. Especially on the Garonne quays, where it is planned to move and expand certain stops to respond to the flow of passengers in busy areas.
