“How ironic! Nothing looks less like New York than Niou Iork”

Niou Iork is not on the Hudson River, but in Ukraine, along the front line in the Donbass. At Niou Iork, the enemy positions are only 2 or 3 kilometers away. But the fortified defences, underground trenches and ditches strewn with antipersonnel mines and bristling with barbed wire are almost impassable. The demarcation has not moved since 2014. Ukrainian soldiers and pro-Russian fighters from the self-proclaimed Republic of Donetsk (DNR) have looked at each other for eight years, growling and showing their teeth. This frozen front suddenly woke up on February 24: from now on, we shoot every day on both sides of the line.
