The passage to the round of 16 has been a certainty for Inter since the Salzburg match. For the lead in the group, however, we will have to wait for the match against Real Sociedad scheduled for two weeks. And that would have been the case anyway, regardless of tonight’s results. Inter and Real Sociedad remain level on points after 90 minutes this evening. With a victory over Benfica the Nerazzurri would have overcome the Spaniards and at that point they could have even drawn in the direct clash that will close the group stage calendar. In that match, however, the two teams still arrive on equal points, so the Nerazzurri – due to an unfavorable goal difference – will have to win at all costs to reach the draw for the round of 16 as first in the standings.
