Igone de Jongh is feeling better a few months after ending her relationship with Thijs Römer.
“I think it’s very sweet that people realize that I’m having a very tough time,” says the 44-year-old dancer in The Telegraph-weekend supplement Free. “But at the moment I prefer to say ‘I have had’. It is still difficult, but much less than a few months ago.”
Römer was convicted in August of sexual misconduct against underage girls. The actor appealed. After his conviction, De Jongh announced that she had ended their relationship.
After a tough time, she is doing better. “And when I see what’s happening in the world and what others are going through… What do I really have to complain about? A little bit of heartbreak. I’ll get over that.”
‘My misery is relative’
She does say that it is not easy. “But my misery is relative. I get to do what I love very much,” the dancer refers to her work. “I have a nice new home. And my children are healthy.”
De Jongh, who will premiere her new performance on Monday Beauty Persists always gets a lot of support from dancing. “As a child I was very shy. Dancing was a way to express my feelings. It still helps me get to the core. I prefer dancing to having a good conversation.”
