How Huawei is reinventing itself in solar

Seen from the sky, it is a silvery sea that shines with a thousand lights and extends as far as the eye can see. 30 minutes from Bordeaux, between the Garonne and the Stade de l’Atlantique des Girondins, the Labarde solar power plant is running at full speed this Friday morning. With 140,000 photovoltaic panels on 60 hectares and an installed power of almost 60 megawatts, it is the largest urban solar power plant in Europe.

Here, the electricity generated can serve up to 30,000 local residents. A beautiful conversion for this corner of Bordeaux which, since the 1970s, has housed a gigantic municipal dump. Beneath the panels, a flock of sheep grazes the grass. “We have years of waste under our feet! jokes Jean-Romain Puel, site manager at Jp Energie Environnement (Jpee), the developer of the plant.
