Horizon Forbidden West’s new Burning Shores DLC has been review bombed on Metacritic by users who are upset about a same-sex romance between Aloy and Seyka. While a user score can be an indicator of technical issues, too often it devolves into a place for hateful comments about a game’s “political” aspects. Metacritic has taken some measures to combat review bombing, but they need to do more. The best solution is to require more verification for user reviews and better moderation. Metacritic is a private entity and has the right to remove hateful comments. It’s time to curb this ridiculous behavior and focus on the game’s story rather than political propaganda.
