REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BOGOR — The Bogor Regency Health Office (Dinkes) noted that dozens of pregnant women in Bogor Regency were infected with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). The pregnant women contracted HIV through sexual transmission, which is thought to have originated from their husbands.
The head of the Strategic Study Institute (Lekas) Foundation, Muksin ZA, explained that from the data he received from the Bogor Regency Health Office, the number of HIV cases in Bogor Regency had increased. In 2021 there were 243 HIV cases recorded, while in 2022 there were 747 HIV cases.
Furthermore, Muksin said, out of 747 cases in 2022, 42 of them were pregnant women. Meanwhile, the number of pregnant women who regularly take anti-retroviral (ARV), or drugs that must be taken by HIV sufferers, is 78 people.
“In programmatic and medical theory, it is contracted through prevention through sexual transmission (PMTS). Yes, most likely infected from her husband,” said Muksin to Republika, Monday (29/5/2023).
Therefore, Muksin emphasized, the Bogor District Health Office should continue to run the HIV-AIDS prevention program and provide comprehensive services. As well as continuing to carry out HIV tests in all areas, while promoting socialization so that people remain vigilant.
“And of course for those who have been exposed to the HIV virus, there must be a companion for People with HIV-AIDS (ODHA). This is the average for HIV activist volunteers, including the Lekas Foundation,” said Muksin.
