In Germany, almost all companies suffer from a shortage of skilled workers, but far too many still make it unnecessarily difficult for those interested to simply apply. Practically all companies (99 percent) rely on applications via email, and at the same time three quarters (73 percent) continue to allow the submission of a classic application folder on paper.
In contrast, only 43 percent offer applications via an online tool that guides interested parties through the process. Just 17 percent rely on a one-click application in business networks. A lot of relevant information does not have to be re-entered because it is automatically transferred from your own profile. And 16 percent of companies use application apps on smartphones. These are the results of a representative survey of 853 companies from all sectors on behalf of the digital association Bitkom.
“Too many companies still rely on the application process like it was 20 years ago. The competition for the best skilled workers begins with a low-threshold application process,” says Bitkom Managing Director Dr. Bernhard Rohleder.
8 out of 10 companies (80 percent) find applicants through job offers; only unsolicited applications are mentioned more frequently (95 percent). Two thirds (64 percent) rely on employment from internships. Almost every second company (47 percent) uses the approach at career fairs, 32 percent search through headhunters and 28 percent recruit new employees via active sourcing, i.e. through targeted searches and approaches on social media or in business networks such as LinkedIn or Xing. A fifth (21 percent) take on employees from projects or from freelance work. Boot camps or crash courses that teach digital skills, however, play almost no role. Only every hundredth company (1 percent) finds new employees there.
