How far will the Stade Malherbe de Caen go?

Six new recruits for the SM Caen pro group, including the latest arrival, Iyad Mohamed. During the first collective session of this Friday, June 24, the club’s coach, Stéphane Moulin, announces other recruitments to come in this transfer window which has just started.

After five weeks of rest, training has resumed for the 20 players at Stade Malherbe de Caen. A group that is not yet final. Indeed the transfer window has just started and for the moment six new recruits have arrived. Stade Malherbe has signed two defenders so far: Romain Thomas and Emmanuel Ntim who arrive from Angers and Valenciennes! A midfielder and a striker: Quentin Daubin and Samuel Essend who played for Pau last year. A goalkeeper from Angers: Anthony Mandréa and the last to arrive Iyad Mohammad. Another player is approaching, it is Bilal Brahimi.

The main recruit for the moment is therefore Anthony Andréa. This 25-year-old goalkeeper played for SCO Angers in Ligue 1 last year. He signed until 2024. He will have the heavy responsibility of replacing Rémy Riou, transferred to Lyon and Sullivan Péan, the No. 2 goalkeeper who is loaned to Dunkirk, National club.

Romain Thomas, new face on the lawn, also from Angers, defender of 1m93 is happy to join Caen: “It’s a life change for me, but I took it knowingly and the goal today is to have the best possible results with Stade Malherbe, we’re going to do something good I hope this season.”

Stéphane Moulin, the coach of SM Caen, gave his first impressions before the first collective session on Friday June 24: “what I want is to have players who feel imbued with the identity of the club but above all that they want to participate in something with us”.

The two iconic midfielders of last season are leaving the club. Johann Lepenant signed for Lyon and Captain Jessy Deminguet refused a one-year contract extension. Some information evokes a Departure for Lille but nothing is signed.

Ambitions for this new season

For the club coach: “We want to have a season where there is more interest and emotion than there was last year, we don’t want to say that we want to go up to Ligue 1, we at least want to do one good season, better than last year”. He adds : “the most important thing is to have players who are able to meet what we ask for. The second part of the championship gave a lot of hope for the future. The rest, we’ll be there soon and finally , we will be able to work with a group that we have chosen, whereas last year, it was a legacy”.

The season kicks off on Saturday July 30 with a first trip to Nîmes.
