How Envie 79 Association Recycles Household Appliances and Reduces Waste

How to consume less, while making a gesture for the environment. In Azay-le-Brulé (79), the Envie 79 association employs back-to-work workers who recycle household appliances from waste collection centres. The price of these devices is often divided by two, three or four.

We are going to tell you the story of a washing machine destined for destruction, but whose fate will change. After being unloaded from the collection truck, this device will pass a series of tests in order to detect any malfunction. Thus, suitable for repair (as is the case for 20% of the recovered equipment) this washing machine will begin a carefully orchestrated journey.

After dismantling, the technicians will carry out a meticulous check of the vital organs of the device. Engine, drain pump, bearings, everything is scrutinized.

But for this washing machine, its somewhat tired motor will be replaced for an identical part, from the 80,000 spare and referenced parts. All these parts come from machines that have been discarded by individuals or professionals.

This virtuous approach was implemented by this integration association two years ago, modeled on the circular economy model.

Now reassembled and cleaned, our washing machine will be waiting at the store for a new buyer. It will be labeled at 129 euros (its original price was more than 300 euros), or three times the price of new. And at this price, the material does not stay long on the shelf.
