Elon Musk has done it again: with a few tweets, it causes quite a stir. Only this time it’s not about Tesla or the Twitter acquisition, but Ukraine
Elon Musk has attracted the ire of the Ukrainians, starting with the president. The Tesla boss has called on Ukraine to seek a negotiated solution with Russia and ultimately to cede Crimea.
Musk also launched a Twitter poll asking citizens of the newly annexed territories of Russia in eastern Ukraine – as well as the Crimea that Moscow conquered in 2014 – if they would like to live in Russia or Ukraine.
Times are delicate: Ukraine, Europe and the US denounce the annexation of four Ukrainian regions by Russian President Vladimir Putin, who declared them Russian territory.

In another post, Musk called for bogus referendums held by Russia in the occupied territories – used by Putin to justify annexations – to be repeated under the supervision of the United Nations. And he argued that Crimea should formally be part of Russia. He said Ukraine should “remain neutral”.
Ukraine’s reaction was swift. Volodymyr Zelenskyy responded by posting his poll on Twitter, asking his supporters if they prefer Elon Musk to support Ukraine … or Russia.

Mykhailo Podolyak, advisor to the chief of staff of the Ukrainian president, replied that “a better peace plan” already exists, which provides for the liberation of the territories, including Crimea. Andriy Melnyk, the top Ukrainian diplomat in Germany, did not mince words.

Musk later tweeted a reaction to Zelenskyy and declared his support for Kiev, but he kept his plea.

Since the early days of the war, Musk has provided Ukraine with Starlink satellite antennas, a network that has proved crucial for Ukraine’s communications infrastructure to counter disinformation emanating from Russia.
Musk highlighted these efforts in a later tweet: “The cost of SpaceX to date to enable and support Starlink in Ukraine is about $ 80 million. Our support for Russia is $ 0. Of course we are pro-Ukrainians.”
The scandal comes as Ukraine’s counter-offensive in the south is gaining momentum after Ukrainian forces retake Russian-controlled cities in the north and east. Ukraine is under increasing pressure to reclaim its territory before the onset of winter, with newly mobilized Russian troops threatening to make progress difficult.

US Representative Adam Kinzinger of Illinois, a Republican who is not running for re-election, was short and sweet.
