In the public pages of Dagestan, people were convinced that special flights were planned for Jewish refugees. Not true.
The fact is that Red Wings Flight 4728 flies five times a week. And, as a rule, in Makhachkala passengers are usually transferred to other flights – to Moscow and St. Petersburg; this practice existed even before the escalation of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.
There are also similar flights to Sochi and Mineralnye Vody. They also fly to Moscow with refueling in Minvodi, and tickets for such flights are very expensive. Such routes are a straightforward matter.
Planes fly through the regions due to technical limitations of the Sukhoi Superjet 100, as well as sanctions that do not allow direct flights from Moscow.
However, it was not possible to contain the raging crowd.
As a result, a crowd of Salafist youth gathered in front of the airport yesterday. Protesters stopped cars and checked the documents of people leaving the airport, suspecting them of being Jewish.
When a plane from Tel Aviv landed at Makhachkala airport, the crowd managed to get onto the runway. Special forces arrived at the airport. Arrests began.
They tried to carry out similar actions in other regions – in Chechnya and Ingushetia. The authorities in Chechnya have spoken out against anti-Semitic actions in the North Caucasus.
Thus, the Minister of National Policy of Chechnya Akhmed Dudayev said: “We have no right to project the actions of the criminal leadership of Israel on all Jews in the broad sense of the word.”
He also noted:
“We, the inhabitants of the Chechen Republic, experienced the consequences of military conflicts, when throughout the country and throughout the world they began to label all representatives of our nationality as bandits and terrorists.
In these regions, the authorities controlled the situation and took all necessary measures in a timely manner, but in Dagestan they failed. Although there is information about 6 wounded special forces and 4 civilians, whether by protesters or other citizens, it is not specified.
Eyewitnesses wrote on social networks that the airport was destroyed and looted, but this is not official information. I really hope that the head of Dagestan, Sergey Melikov, will be able to deal with the crowd, provoked by extremist resources, and common sense will prevail among the rebels.
