At Megaros Maximos, no one was surprised by Nikos Androulakis‘s victory in the PaSoK leadership race.
The outcome of the first round and the exclusion of Pavlos Geroulanos and Anna Diamantopoulos from claiming the presidency of the party, had shaped the facts anyway. In this sense, the (almost predetermined) victory of Androulakis was expected, while a victory by Haris Doukas would be somewhat surprising, but even this would not change the political facts.
What remains to be seen after Androulaki’s victory
According to the prevailing opinion in Megaros Maximos, the outcome of the intra-party process in PaSoK has developed linearly so far. The previous leadership of the party was re-elected and two elements remain to be seen: a) whether the ongoing dissolution of SYRIZA will extend to the parliament, with a new split, which will bring the PASoK to the seats of the official opposition and b) whether in the measurements of the upcoming period, PaSoK will develop some remarkable dynamics, overcoming the psychological limit of 20% and setting conditions for the formation of a significant opposition pole.
Until these are seen, the prime minister’s environment attaches particular importance to the political atmosphere of the period and the climate that will prevail in the communication between Mitsotakis and Androulakis, especially if it takes on an institutional framework, in the event that PaSoK emerges as the official opposition.
In this sense, at Megaros Maximos they await with particular interest whether Nikos Androulakis will make the first step, responding to the Prime Minister’s invitation for a meeting between them, which was addressed during the congratulatory phone call of Kyriakos Mitsotakis on Sunday evening .
