Three years have already passed since Juris Žagars replaced the stage boards in the Daile Theater with the director’s office. This position includes a lot of responsibility, but as Žagar himself admits in the program “Iečeko slavenibu” – with such a team of professionals as Dailes Theater has, this work is “not rocket science”.
However, it is no secret that representatives of creative professions tend to be “big stars” in their spirit with their own demands and whims. How does Žagar manage to deal with this kind of side effects in the director’s chair?
“It might be such an arrogant answer, but I myself have been a star here, so it’s hard to impress me with something like that. What do we really need stars here, if only a foreign director who is recognized at the world level comes. But again, there are usually no problems with those really big stars. John Malkovich, for example, when he was here, stood calmly in the common row at the buffet.
At the same time, I must say – I am extremely proud of Daile’s strong team. We have great actors, a good artistic and technical team. I can rely on them, it’s not like I have to do everything now and be responsible for everything alone.”
