The woman who was escorted from the M3 highway for a routine check by the tax inspectors was the woman driving her car from Táborfalva to the town of Csenger. The vehicle’s slightly darkened glass and station wagon character fit into the risk profile of the uniformed officers, which was sufficient reason for a more thorough search. No contraband was found during the search of the car, but even the patrolmen were surprised to see the ponies transported in the car. One horse stood in front of the back seat, while the other was held captive by a dog carrier in the trunk. The 50-year-old woman driving the car said she wanted to buy a dog, but since she couldn’t get one, she bought ponies instead.
Considering the conditions of the transport and the unjustified suffering caused to the animals, the financial inspectors notified the staff of the Füzesabony Police Department, who initiated proceedings for violation of the rules.
