How do Russian citizens who do not know the Romanian language and have not lived in Romania manage to obtain a Romanian passport and access to the EU?

An advertisement on the website of Kommersant, a business and political newspaper in Moscow, urges those who access the portal to obtain their citizenship in the European Union, the promotion being made with documents from Romania. He doesn’t have to know the language or live here, he says Libertatea.ro

The formula that the experts from International Expert propose for obtaining citizenship, without knowing the language and without the obligation to have lived in the country, refers to the repatriation procedure for the relatives of those who lived in the old territories of Romania.

“Between 1918 and 1940, Romania had the largest number of territories, including Bessarabia and Northern Bukovina – part of the southwestern regions of Ukraine. Due to the historical events and active migration processes of this period, Romanian citizens and their descendants live today in different countries. A lot of archive data has been lost, and most Ukrainians, Russians and Belarusians do not know the information about their origin “, the company notes.

The website of the company advertising in Russia states that “Romanian citizenship can be obtained by persons who have documented the presence in the family of a close relative up to the third generation, who lived or was born in the country during 1918-1940 ”. “The applicant must present documents from his mother, father, grandmother, grandfather, great-grandfather or great-grandfather,” said the company, which has offices in Bucharest, Sofia, Moscow, Kyiv and Almaty, Kazakhstan.

Law no. 21/1991 allows the granting of Romanian citizenship for the descendants of persons who held Romanian citizenship before the formation of the USSR.
