How do Manchester’s Pakistani youth celebrate Eid?

Eid-ul-Fitr is celebrated with religious devotion and traditional enthusiasm in Greater Manchester, United Kingdom.

Here, on the occasion of Chand Raat, people are busy preparing for Eid and the markets are unusually crowded.

At Wilmslow Road and Longsight Road, Manchester’s well-known markets, special stalls for clothes, henna, bangles, jewellery, khasa, golgape, tea, etc. are set up, while swings are arranged for children.

Independent Urdu spoke to some of the Pakistani youth who came to the stalls who were born in the UK and who have been celebrating their Eids in the UK since childhood.

These young people said that they hear from their grandparents, grandparents and parents that Eid festivals are celebrated with great enthusiasm in Pakistan.

He further said that on the occasion of Eid, all members of the family wear new clothes, men offer Eid prayers in mosques, delicious dishes are prepared, children get Eid, relatives and friends get together and socialize. Celebrate the joys of Eid.

According to these youngsters, they cannot fulfill all the traditions of Eid while living in UK and they are away from their relatives but they try their best to celebrate Eid with full enthusiasm and traditional values.

He said that on Eid, children go for a walk. While living in UK, they do not get Eid leave from schools and colleges but they can take one or two Eid holidays for which the educational institutions do not charge any penalty.
