Jakarta – Experts say the examination is the best way to determine what you are suffering from because the symptoms of the disease can overlap. Viruses that cause have a cold, flu, and Covid-19 spreads the same way, through droplets from the nose and mouth of an infected person. It can all spread before someone realizes they are infected.
The time of transmission or the person who begins to contract it can vary. Some people who are infected with the corona virus but do not experience any symptoms, it is still possible for them to spread it. Coughs, fever, fatigue and muscle aches are common with the flu and Covid-19, said Kristen Coleman, a research assistant professor at the University of Maryland School of Public Health. Symptoms specific to Covid-19 include loss of taste or smell.
Meanwhile, the common cold tends to be milder with symptoms including nasal congestion and sore throat. Fever is more common with the flu. In some cases it is possible to catch the flu and Covid-19 at the same time, which some call “flurona.”
“Co-infection of any kind can become severe or worsen your symptoms,” Coleman says. “If influenza cases continue to rise, we could see more types of coinfection with this virus in the coming weeks or months.”
With many similar symptoms caused by all three types of viruses, testing remains the best option to determine which one you may have. Home tests for the flu aren’t as widely available as for Covid-19, but some pharmacies offer testing for both viruses simultaneously, Coleman notes. This can help the doctor prescribe the right treatment.
