How Different Patterns of Mobility Can Improve Heart Health: New Research Findings from the University of London

Scientists at the University of London wanted to find out how different patterns of mobility over a 24-hour period affect heart health. It’s no secret that inactivity is unhealthy, and even replacing sitting with standing for 10 minutes has a positive effect.

Data from 15,000 people worldwide also shows that standing for two hours is equivalent to jogging or cycling for five minutes. An even greater effect can be achieved by a brisk walk of up to 40 minutes, which is a great “gym” for our heart.

Of course, you should remember about quality sleep, which gives rest to the body.

Meanwhile, guidelines approved by the World Health Organization recommend that people do at least 150 minutes of moderate to vigorous physical activity each week.

As you get older, balance becomes more important, and you can even practice standing on one leg while brushing your teeth. Remember squats and lunges, but strength exercises can be done while carrying two shopping bags.
