Jakarta –
A traveler left his AirPods on a plane. But fortunately he was able to find it again.
In March, Alisabeth Hayden, from the US state of Washington separated from her AirPods, an expensive $250 Apple item, while getting off a plane in San Francisco.
After nearly two weeks, he got his AirPods back thanks to the device’s tracking capabilities. CNN reported, Wednesday (29/3/2023), Hayden flew from Tokyo to visit her husband, who was seconded to the military.
Long story short, the plane had taken off for Seattle. Hayden then used the plane’s Wi-Fi to track the earphones using the “Find My” app, which tracks Apple devices.
AirPods featured on SFO. Then he realized his item was moving.
“I’m a go-getter, and I tracked all the way from San Francisco to Seattle, taking screenshots all the time. I live an hour from Seattle, and as soon as I get home, I’m still taking screenshots,” he says.
AirPods now appear in a place on the map called United Cargo. The location is still inside the airport, but on the cargo side of the airline, so there will likely be no passengers.
Then they moved to Terminal 2. Then to Terminal 3. Then the AirPods were on Highway 101, heading south towards San Mateo.
The AirPods ended up in what appeared to be a Bay Area residence. It was there for three days.
Of course, gadgets are precious, but Hayden’s AirPods hold special significance. It was a liaison with her husband, who was calling her from where the signal was so bad she needed AirPods to hear better.
Ever since he realized the AirPods were missing, Hayden has been trying to get them back. He sent messages to United and SFO from the plane, then to police in San Francisco to SFO’s own airport police.
He drafted email formats for United employees, and blasted every executive he could find.
Next, he marked the AirPods as lost in that app. So that anyone using it would hear a message letting them know it was his, and giving them his phone number.
Finally, after 12 days of chasing, Hayden finally got his AirPods back even though they were not in good condition. It looked like his belongings had been trampled and he received compensation from United of USD 271 plus an apology.
