New striker Kevin Behrens (30) has scored for Union in every competition – in the Bundesliga (8 games / 1 goal), in the DFB Cup (2/2) and in the European Cup (3/2).
It has long been clear: Behrens, who came on a free transfer from second division Sandhausen (2018 to 2021) in the summer, is a stroke of luck.
Before that, between 2011 and 2018 he was in the lower class for Saarbrücken, Essen, Aachen, Hannover II and Wilhelmshaven in the regional league. You ask yourself: How could DER storm so far down for so long?
The answer arguably has several parts
► On the one hand, Behrens stood in his own way. He liked to be at the forefront of pack formations. Behrens: “I didn’t have the emotions under control.”
► Possibly the birth of his children (the third coming in January) made him calmer. In any case, Behrens is now putting his energy into ball actions and goals.
► Union wanted to get Behrens in 2020. At that time he received no clearance from Sandhausen. Ex-Unioner Markus Karl (35) played with Behrens in Sandhausen. Karl about Behrens: “It is an absolute machine. He has a brutal body. Kevin is also fully immersed in training. It hurts any defense. “
Behrens simply says of himself: “I try to help the team in every game.” He’s been doing that at Union so far.
