How Changes in Train Schedule Impact Traders in Plered, Purwakarta

Jakarta

The 2023 Train Travel Chart (Gapeka) has been implemented starting June 1, 2023. This has resulted in various changes, ranging from new train trips, accelerated travel time, and efficiency of travel time including train stop times at stations which can cause changes to train schedules.

These changes may cause passengers to be reluctant to ‘glance’ at traders or tenants around the train station. Because, afraid to miss the train.

One of the affected trains is the local train for Garut-Purwakarta. According to the schedule, the train transits at Plered Station for only 15 minutes, whereas on the previous schedule the train could transit or stop for hours.

This condition caused Maranggi satay customers in Kampung Sate Maranggi Plered, Purwakarta to drop sharply, even up to 20%. Even though the sellers usually make money from train users who temporarily get off at Plered Station.

“It’s very impactful, because before it took a long stop it could take hours so I could rest first, the passengers traveled and there were lots of people eating satay, now there’s only one or two, and even then buy the satay that’s ready, because there’s little time,” he said Yuri Angraeni quoted from detikjabarSunday (4/6/2023).

Yuri said that when there was no schedule change at Plered Station, customers who got off the train could buy up to hundreds of skewers of satay. But now, with the limited time, they don’t want to get off for fear of missing the train.

However, he did not ask for a change in the train schedule again, because that had already been determined by PT KAI. It still exists even though it has experienced a decline in customers from railroad passengers.

“In general, the decrease is 20%, but thank God it’s still there copper“Those who come here deliberately want to eat here,” he said.

Responding to this, Soegijapranata Unika Transportation Observer Djoko Setijowarno assessed that traders around the station must be even more creative to entice passengers to visit their shop. This is because train passengers really want a shorter trip.

“If it takes a long time, the passenger won’t be interested in getting on the train. The problem is, people taking the train want to arrive quickly, what if they take the train for a long time?” he told detikcom.

“Indeed, there is a clear impact on sales, those who sell must be creative, how do you do it (attract visitors),” he added.
