How Cattle Farmers in Tuban Try to Treat Lumpy Skin Disease – Suryamalang.com

SURYAMALANG.COM, TUBAN – Foot and mouth disease (FMD) is not over yet, but now many cows belonging to residents in Tuban Regency are affected lumpy skin disease (LSD) or smallpox.

The infectious disease infected dozens of cows in Luwuk Hamlet, Kedungrejo Village, Kerek District.

Worried that the health condition of the cows is getting worse, the breeders are trying to provide traditional concoctions of herbal medicine, made from turmeric, bee honey and young coconut.

A farmer, Ari (35), said that this scabies disease had infected cattle in the past week.

His livestock suddenly went limp and many lumps appeared on the cow’s body. In fact, not only that, his livestock also felt pain in their legs and did not want to eat.

“It’s been the last week that LSD has been contagious, we have given traditional herbs to maintain immunity,” he told journalists, Monday (13/3/2023).

He explained, three days earlier the breeder had called the veterinarian to give the cow an injection of medicine, but until now the cow’s condition had not improved.

The farmer finally makes grated turmeric mixed with honey and young coconut water, after which the medicine is given directly to the sick cow using a funnel to increase immunity.

The breeders hope that the local government will immediately provide a solution to this problem.

“The initial symptoms are the cow’s body temperature is hot and has swelling in the legs, and the skin has bumps, water comes out of the mouth and eyes. The vet said this was LSD disease,” he concluded.
