For some years now, the choice to follow a line shared by other European countries regarding the limitation of cash has begun to divide: even in the face of an increasing use of electronic money (due to account cards, prepaid cards and new types of wire transfers), some concern has begun to develop around the ATM.
This name identifies both the act of withdrawal at branches ATM, but also the payment system in general when this occurs through a card. In our country, traditionally linked to cash, the role of ATMs is increasingly widespread even if the number of branches is decreasing (in the last year and a half around 2,500 ATMs have disappeared). The motivation is mainly due to a common trend, which sees credit institutions no longer able to manage branches due to high costs. On the other hand, users have become more and more autonomous in the management of their savings, especially with the possibility of exploiting thehome bankingthat is the management through your smartphone or home computer.
ATM alert throughout Italy: how can you withdraw now?
So if on the one hand the cash is increasingly limited especially for medium-high amounts (the current limit of withdrawal / deposit / payment in cash is set at 2000 euros for 2022, while at least in theory from next year this will be halved ).
Fewer bank branches also means a probable new policy relating to commission costs, especially those relating to when withdrawals are made at banks other than those of the owner: currently there is a fixed interchange fee of 49 euro cents but it was Bancomat SpA itself that propose the repeal of the latter in favor of a fixed rate, decided by the individual banks. The proposal has been examined by the Antitrust which will decide by the end of April.
If confirmed, the withdrawal fee could cost up to 1.5 euro.
