Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN) – The issue of mental health often comes with stigma from society. This is one of the reasons why people cannot seek the help they need.
The National Center for Disease Prevention and Control “Saudi CDC” published advice on dealing with the stigma associated with having a mental illness, including:
Learn about your mental disorder, and share what you’ve learned – knowledge reduces stigma
Most mental health problems are treatable, so try to get help from a professional
Do not allow feelings of rejection to be a barrier to your normal activities and the hobbies that you love
Avoid overthinking others’ words about your mental illness to avoid feeling bad about it
Many patients have overcome and recover from their mental illnesses, so don’t let stigma prevent you from receiving treatment
Do not allow stigma to drive you towards isolation from society, and try to spend your time with people you trust and who understand your psychological state.
