The Swedish stop has an even slalom on the program and then the finals will take place in France.
Shiffrin’s thoughts aren’t just skiing right now. The night before the start in Aara, she poured out her heart on the instagram. She commented emotionally on the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
We select some passages from the extensive article.
“This war in Ukraine is so outrageous that I don’t even know how to put it. Evacuation refugees, children and pregnant women are being bombed and shelled while fleeing their invaded homes and hospitals.
Millions of refugees are leaving their country, including one million children (according to the UN), which makes this conflict the biggest in Europe since World War II, “the star skier wrote at the beginning.
She also pointed out that tens of thousands of people are without food, water and electricity.
“Why all this? What’s the real point? I won’t even try to pretend that I know what should be done, I don’t understand the internal workings of politics and especially not wars.
I believe that those who lead our nations are working together to take all possible steps. Whatever steps they take, I hope they will bring change and end this war, “Shiffrin continued.

She described the current situation as “heartbreaking, appalling, scary and crazy.”
“After I contribute or do any other little thing I can, I lie down in bed, bang on the mattress and pillow, with a roof over my head and clean running water in the bathroom.
And the next day I wake up thinking that one of the last races of the World Cup season awaits me, knowing that in a few weeks I will return home to my family, friends and ‘peace’. But this is not peace, is it? There is no peace when Ukraine is destroyed, “she stressed.

She asked a rhetorical question that had been haunting her for some time:
“How can I be interested in racing at this point? How can anyone take care of anything else until the war is over and those who are responsible for it will be held accountable? How?”
I think it is as simple as living our lives, but we must use our voices to protest this war. Contribute to the aid as much as possible, to those who are fighting in Ukraine and to those who are fleeing their homes to stay alive. “
She called on followers to send her suggestions on how to meaningfully help Ukraine. She promised to try to spread them.
She also remembered her tragically deceased father, Jeff: “A few days ago, he would have been 68 years old. He should have been here. “
She attached a photo of her family from her childhood. Her grandmother, who died a few months before her father, is also on it. She was very close to her too.
“The two people who have been most important to me all my life. It’s hard to believe they’ve ever been here…
As if it were the ghosts in the picture or the fruits of my imagination from a time when I wasn’t terribly afraid that the people I love the most could die and leave me here, “she concluded.
