BYD M6 overtook several cars with conventional engines to enter the top 10 best selling cars. What are the factors?
BYD M6 electric car is a surprise. In wholesale sales data published by the Indonesian Automobile Industries Association (Gaikindo) for October 2024, electric cars in the MPV segment entered the top 10 positions.
Lying in the 10th position, the BYD M6 overtook regular cars on the best seller list such as the Daihatsu Ayla, Toyota Agya, Daihatsu Terios, Toyota Fortuner, and Honda HR-V.

BYD M6 wholesale sales have actually increased significantly since July 2024. If in July only 40 M6 units were distributed, then in August the number was 312 units, in September 836 units, and in October it shot up to 1,866 units immediately. So what are the factors?
“This increase in sales reflects the high interest of consumers in electric vehicles as well as their trust in BYD’s technological innovation, especially in the BYD M6 which has been specially designed to meet the needs and preferences of people Indonesia’s answer,” explained Head of PR & Government Relations of PT BYD Motor Indonesia Luther Panjaitan to detikOto , Tuesday (19/11/2024).
Overall, BYD has seen an increase in both wholesale and retail distribution. With four electric cars sold in the price range of IDR 370 million to IDR 700 million, BYD’s October sales were even higher than Hyundai’s while the manufacturer from Ginseng Country was kicked out of the top 10 height BYD in October released 2,488 wholesale car units and 2,597 retail units. Meanwhile, Hyundai recorded wholesale sales of 1,711 units and retail sales of 1,451 units.
As Luther said, this achievement is proof that it will be easier for the people of Indonesia to accept electric vehicles in the future.
“We are hopeful that advances in EV infrastructure in Indonesia will encourage wider adoption of electric vehicles,” said Luther.
