“We Care, We Care About Your Health” or Your Health, Our Concern, a series focused on medical education. In this video clip I interview an obstetrician and a gynecologist. Dr Prawan Tangtham, a specialist in reproductive medicine at Genesis Fertility Clinic (GFC) Thailand, gives advice to parents planning a pregnancy. and shared information on how pre-pregnancy screening can help address infertility issues.

Dr. Prawan Tangtham is a specialist in infertility treatment. with more than 10 years of experience in this field

Common Infertility Problems

Age is often the leading cause of infertility. But irregular menstruation can be a warning sign of a cyst-related abnormality, such as an ovarian cyst, which should be detected in the early stages by early screening. to avoid future complications.

Screening is important for detecting and treating infertility. Especially the male blood and sperm test. and ultrasound examination of the woman’s uterus and ovaries

infertility treatment

When the true cause of infertility is detected Spouses will receive advice on methods of treatment. It consists of three main stages:

  1. It helps to calculate the ovulation date of women to help spontaneous pregnancy.
  2. If natural pregnancy is unsuccessful It can be treated with IUI or intrauterine sperm injection.
  3. If IUI does not work, alternatives such as in vitro fertilization (in vitro fertilization) or ICSI (injection of sperm into the egg) may be considered.

In vitro fertilization is the collection of eggs and sperm. and then mixed in a test tube. Then the best embryo is selected and inserted into the uterine cavity. This will increase your chances of getting pregnant as you have the best and strongest embryos. Another method is ICSI, which uses a needle to suck the sperm and inject it directly into the egg. ICSI is very popular because it gives you a better chance of getting pregnant.

The important role of screening

Initial screening for infectious diseases such as hepatitis B, HIV and syphilis. are of great importance. In particular, the identification of carriers of thalassemia is a serious problem and should be consulted with an infertility specialist to find out how to prevent transmission of the disease to children. At 3 months of pregnancy, fetal chromosome screening (NIPT) is recommended because the test results are highly accurate and reduce potential problems.

“Every pregnancy is different,” said Dr Prawan Tangtham, who said that although the first child was normal, there is no guarantee that the second child will be like this. Therefore, there should be a screening test in every pregnancy. The doctor also pointed this out.At present, there is not enough information to confirm the presence of COVID-19. Does it affect the fertility of men and women?

Among the spouses in Parawan The Dharma treatment was successful: a 42-year-old mother who was naturally pregnant for a long time. But the chromosome test results are not good, there are only 3 eggs and only one chromosome test passed. After three courses of treatment, the results of the embryo examination were normal. The baby was born healthy and the mother is very happy

Prawan Tangtham, Dr Prawan Tangtham, caters to those interested in infertility treatment. “You don’t have to worry about the exam, the pain or what the doctor will do. Relax. I don’t want you to worry about it.”
