American billionaire Bill Gates constantly affirms his fascination with the capabilities of artificial intelligence, which is advancing rapidly.
On last Thursday’s episode of his podcast, “Unconfuse Me,” Gates spoke with Khan Academy CEO Sal Khan about “the most amazing demo he’s ever seen.” The billionaire confirmed that he watched ChatGPT achieve the highest possible score on an advanced biology test in August 2022.
ChatGPT, a generative artificial intelligence program, was created by Microsoft partner OpenAI and has often been at the center of discussions about its role in education.
And when Gates challenged OpenAI CEO Sam Altman to develop a chatbot AI program high enough to score high on the AP Biology test, he expected the process to take years.
“I thought, well, this will give me three years to work on HIV and malaria,” he said in the episode. But it only took two months for ChatGPT to pass the test, showing its human-level proficiency and ability to read and write almost like humans.
Nearly a year later, Gates confirmed that he was still considering bringing it up. “I am still personally in shock at his ingenuity,” he said.
As chatbots evolve, human specialists fear they will be replaced by artificial intelligence. While some blame the technology for losing their jobs, others have used the software as a tool to get things done faster.
Gates argued that artificial intelligence will transform the very idea of the workforce, and that it has the potential to become a “digital personal assistant” that enhances employee productivity.
The founder of “Microsoft” continues to support the use of artificial intelligence and its capabilities, and Gates expects that its capabilities will become so powerful soon that it will make search engines “something obsolete.” (cnbc)
