NEW YORK – With Election Day right around the corner, the deadline to register in the tri-state area is fast approaching.
Here’s everything you need to know about how to register to vote and when the deadline is:
New York
New Yorkers who want to participate in this year’s election and still need to register must follow certain criteria:
- Be a citizen of the United States;
- Although citizens can pre-register at age 16 or 17, they cannot vote until age 18;
- Be a resident of this state and the county, city or town in which you are registering for at least 30 days before the election;
- Do not be in prison for a felony conviction;
- Not published by a court of mental incompetence;
- Not claiming the right to vote elsewhere
In New York State, you can register in person in the following ways:
- At your county board of elections
- At any New York state agency voter registration center
- At the DMV if you already have a DMV ID
In New York State, you can request a registration form in the following ways:
- By mail by adding your name directly to the voter registration form mailing list
- By calling the 1-800-FOR-VOTE hotline (1-800-367-8683) to request a vote
Once you have completed the form, email it to your local county election board.
Date
To vote in the General Election, when it comes to registering by post, an electoral board must receive applications no later than October 26th.
At the same time, personal registration must be completed no later than October 26th.

NEW JERSEY
New Jersey offers online voter registration. Residents can register by mail to vote in New Jersey by printing a voter registration form, filling it out, and mailing it to their county Registration Commissioner/Superintendent of Elections. However, residents can also register in person if they wish.
Voter registration requirements
To register in New Jersey, certain requirements must be met:
- US Citizen;
- At least 17 years old. However, you cannot vote until you are 18 years old;
- A resident of the county in which you are registering for 30 days before the election;
- A person who does not serve a sentence of imprisonment for a conviction in any state of the United States.
Register via email
The person registering to vote must complete a Voter Registration Application and/or Party Affiliation Form. Mail or deliver the Voter Registration Application and/or Party Affiliation Form to the County Registration Commissioner or Superintendent of Elections for the county in which you live.
Register online
To register online, you will need your date of birth and one of the following types of ID:
- A current and valid driver’s license or non-driver identification card issued by the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission (MVC).
- Social Security Number: It is important to note that you must be able to sign on the screen or upload your signature to complete the registration process. If you cannot provide a digital signature, you will not be able to register online.
Date
The deadline for voting in the upcoming election is 21 days before Election Day. This means that Tuesday is the deadline to register to vote for the General Election October 15th.

CONNECTICUT

You are eligible to vote in Connecticut if:
- is a US citizen and a resident of Connecticut;
- You are 18 years old or will turn 18 before Election Day;
- released, if convicted of a serious crime.

Date
The deadline for email voter registration requests must be posted by October 18. Online registrations must be received by 11:59 p.m., and in-person registration with your local Registrar of Voters must be completed by 8 p.m.
