Not everyone has finished the round. At the time of writing, Phil Mickelson has a five-stroke lead after playing ten holes of the round. Mickelson is ten strokes below par for the tournament.

Viktor Hovland’s hope for victory in this year’s second major tournament, the PGA Championship, seems to be out after he went the third round of 75 strokes, three strokes over par.

Unlike the first two days, conditions were much calmer on Kiawah Island on Saturday, and Hovland’s round has led him down to a currently shared 38th place, where he is 13 strokes behind leader Phil Mickelson at the time of writing.

Should the 50-year-old win the tournament, which ends on Sunday, he will be the oldest winner of a major in history.

Viktor Hovland was all the way up in a split second place after the first round of the PGA Championship, but a round of three strokes over par, sent the Norwegian down to a split 19th place after the second round, in par after the first two rounds.

It was especially with the driver Hovland played in problems during Friday’s round, and it did not continue much better in the first part of Saturday’s round.

On the first nine holes, there was a long way between the birdie opportunities and a double bogey on hole 3 – where he puttted from six meters – made the 23-year-old two strokes over par for the round.

We followed Hovland’s round battle by battle – read how the whole round was here.

In the last nine he played more steadily and there was a birdie on both holes 10 and 11. Hovland played to several good birdie opportunities on the last holes, but there were also some costly mistakes. The entry on hole 13 ended in the bunker and missed the next three meter long putt for par.

Hovland played beautifully in the fairway on hole 16, but from there and in there was little that voted on the long par 5 hole and it became a new bogey after he hit the second shot 30 meters to the left of the hole.

Another bogey came on hole 17, where Hovland hit the shot in the bunker, and thus it was the second straight round of 75 strokes for the Norwegian.

Ahead of the last round, he is well outside the top 30, but with a good round he can secure his best result in the tournament. In 2020, he finished in a split 33rd place in the PGA Championship, his first participation in the major tournament.
