Hovland lost his first match in the Ryder Cup debut:

Hovland played messy in his first beats in his Ryder Cup debut at Whistling Straits in Sheboygan, Wisconsin, but then it picked up. Still, it did not hold for victory for Hovland in the Ryder Cup debut.

The USA won the first hole but Hovland and Paul Casey hit back in Friday’s foursome on holes three and four which the European duo won. Then, however, it stopped. On hole five the teams had to settle for points, but on holes six and seven the Americans won and thus stuck in the lead again.

Then there were three holes with points sharing before the Americans again won two holes in a row. Thus, Hovland and Casey were three behind with six holes left.

On hole 13, however, Hovland was able to regain his usual good mood when he with a putt made sure that the Europeans won the hole and the battle for victory was revived.

Despite new tension in the match, two holes followed with a split of points and thus Johnson and Morikawa were able to secure the USA’s first point in the competition against Hovland and Casey. On hole 16, the Americans put the nail in the coffin and won the match against Hovland and Casey

– I think we played a good round. But the United States had many birdies and did not make many mistakes. We did not put enough putter to gain momentum, but I think we did a very good job, says Hovland to the press after the game.

Later it was announced that Hovland has been selected to also play fourball which starts at 19.10 Norwegian time. Hovland gets Tommy Fleetwood as a partner and strikes out at 19.58.

In addition to Hovland and Casey struggling in their match, there was also American dominance in two of the other three matches as well. For Europe, only Jon Rahm and Sergio Garcia had good control of their match against Justin Thomas and Jordan Spieth. There, Rahm / Garcia ended up winning by three holes in the first match of the day.

Thus, the Spanish duo Europa secured the then first point in the tournament.

– It feels good. I always knew who I had next to me (Rahm journ. Note), and I would not have exchanged him for anyone, says Garcia just after the point was secured.

In the remaining matches, the USA won and thus the Americans have got a solid start to the Ryder Cup as they now lead 3-1 against Europe.

The foursome exercise is simply two-man teams from each team with one ball per hole. Here, the players take turns to decide who will strike out, until all holes are completed. You also roll on who starts with the result on odd-numbered holes and even-numbered holes. The team with the lowest score per hole wins the hole. If it is the same, there will be a points division. You get points per hole you win and not the total after all 18 holes.
