Friday October 16 at 8:30 p.m. in the church of Houville-la-Branche: Discover the crypt. Concert of the Maîtrise of Chartres Cathedral. Free participation.
A crypt closed for decades and rediscovered by Father Nicolas Boucée, in collaboration with the town hall, on February 1, 2020. On this ancient site, there is a well and murals which are dated from the 12th century by a team of specialists . This crypt is therefore an important place in the history of the village, a place of pilgrimage to Saint Léger, with a miraculous spring!
Houville was also at the end of the 19th century the conversion of Célestine PARAGOT (1814-1875) who with her strong personality was able to bring the villagers to Christ.
This village figure meets Christ in a period of convalescence after a fall, and his conversion attracts many people. The church and the sacristy grew and became more adorned, and it was thus that Houville was known under the name of Houville la Sainte or the Îlot de sainteté.
The vocation of the village continues in the 20th century, since it (of 450 people today) will offer to the Lord 8 priests and 8 nuns, one of which is in La Visitation.
During the war the crypt will serve as a refuge for the arrival of German troops, as evidenced by the initials HF that François Heurtault inscribed in June 1940.
