CAIRO (Reuters) – A senior official in Yemen’s Houthi movement on Tuesday warned cargo ships in the Red Sea to avoid traveling towards the “occupied Palestinian territories”, after the Iran-aligned group claimed responsibility for an attack on a commercial tanker earlier the same day.
The Houthis previously said they hit a Norwegian commercial tanker with a missile in their latest protest against the Israeli bombing of Gaza, highlighting the consequences of the conflict that has rocked the Middle East.

Al-Houthi also warned cargo ships against “falsifying identity and flying flags other than the flags of the royal country.”
The Houthi military spokesman, Yahya Saree, said in a previous statement that the Iran-allied group attacked the Strinda tanker because it was transporting crude oil to an Israeli terminal and after its crew ignored all warnings.
The Houthis intervened in the conflict between Israel and Hamas, the repercussions of which spread throughout the region. They attacked ships in vital shipping lanes and launched drones and missiles at Israel, which is more than a thousand miles away from the Yemeni capital, Sanaa.
